FourLeg: Keeping you on your 'sesamoids' (toes)!

Hi Everyone!  I know that this will get to you a day late - but Happy St. Patrick's Day anyways... there's never a bad time for green beer!  This week I saw a couple of dogs return for the second appointment after I mobilized their sacroiliac joint and lumbar spine.  Both dogs, have been incapacitated for several months (almost a year)... but BAM!  Major improvement with only one session.  I know, I know... if you know anything about me, you know that I LOVE the sacroiliac joint (SIJ).  Admittedly I always hope for an SIJ to fix... and I do 'council' myself to not fall into a trap of ONLY seeing SIJ problems (not to worry, I treat plenty of other things)... but gosh, it can be all-together dramatic when you can fix a mechanical issue of the pelvis or spine!

So on Tuesday, I head out on my Sweden, Sweden, Austria trip!  I'm a bit stressed about all of the travel details, but I know that I will enjoy the people!!  If anyone happens to be hanging around the Chicago O'hare airport... I'll be there for a 5-hour layover... give me a shout!

I have managed to bang out 4 of the 8 papers for the talks I'll be doing in Italy on May 31/June 1.  The topics all pertain to the old dog:  Whole body assessment; PT pain management for OA; Geriatric Wobbler's and PT management; Conditioning & exercise for the geriatric dog; Rehab the mind; Red flags and concerns with rehabbing the geriatric dog; Obesity programs; & Marketing to attract geriatric patients.  I have so much of the material in bits and pieces of my other work...but it's been mind-blowing to put together these 8 new talks!  (I know what I'll be doing in Chicago for 5 hours + the 11 hours of fly-time!)

So... let's see what I have in the line up for you this week:
MEMBERS Video Training - Sesamoids
Image
This video goes into everything you would ever want to know about sesamoid bones - from function, to anatomy, to etiology of pathology, to diagnosis, and then treatment.

And, just as an FYI, because I have been asked... No, my dog is not drugged for these videos.  That's just a Borzoi for you, and one of the reasons I fell in love with the breed over a decade ago!

Blog - Swimmer's Puppy
And the blog for this week deals with Swimmer's Puppies.  It's a good question sent in by one of the Four Leg Members.
Don't forget, you can e-mail me a question at any time.  (I can't promise a next-day answer... but I will get back to you!)

Other Nifty News

I just wanted to pass along a couple of additional neat finds:
1) A new research paper, written by animal physiotherapist Ann Essner (Sweden) is now available online!  Check out the abstract at:

2) I posted the following on Facebook...but here is a direct link to a YouTube video.  This one in particular pertains to a novel therapy for treating myofascial restrictions.  Gotta figure out some canine applications for the distractions techniques - without shaving the leg if at all possible:
