FourLeg: You need to hear this!

Published: Mon, 10/21/13

Well hey there!!  It has been a busy week for me!  It started out with our Canadian Thanksgiving, where I toured a friend, former student, FourLeg Member, canine rehab colleague to the mountains for the day (not to worry, I had the turkey et al the day before)!  Then for the rest of the week, the same friend, former student, FourLeg Members, canine rehab colleague spent the rest of the week on an informal 'after-certification' internship at my clinic.  It was great to have her with us!  On Tuesday, we had an overly long day, full of furry patients, and then a tour, talk, and demo for a local Canine 4-H club.  Thursday was FULL and Friday was FULL (but filled with awesome client-dogs... including assessments of 3 Newfoundland puppies - 9 weeks old... OMG, they were so cute, you could just eat them up!  And a whirlwind appointment of 7 sporting sheltie assessments / tune-ups!  And I I LOVE shelties!)  Then Saturday was my one Saturday a month... and it was FULL as well!  And today, was fabulous!  Beautiful fall weather, I repotted some plants to take them indoors, took down the hops vines (no, I don't know how to make beer), and convinced one kid to do a little yard work for me!

AND... I am so excited about this... but my Dad came by on Sunday morning (remember last week's blog telling you about how he is a 'physical disaster'... shhhh...).  Well, he has a new injury this week!  And, I captured this one on video for you (all with consent... not to worry...) I can't wait to edit the video and get it up to show you!  It's a perfect case study of something you don't see every day!! So, hang on until then!!  I'll try to get it edited for next week!

So, let's get on with today's educational instalment...
Long time no business...
Log In - Dog with iPod!
It's been 'forever' since I've posted a Business & Marketing audio for you!  So, this week is a great topic (I think).  It is about scheduling frequency for follow-up appointments.  I think this is a topic that everyone needs to put some thought into - are you advising too much or too little!  And I'd love to hear your thoughts.

So, I know that it's hard to sit there and listen.  I can't do that either!  So download the file and put it into your ipod / other MP3 player and listen on your way to work, or at the gym, or while making dinner! That way you are learning and thinking while doing something where your brain can otherwise be on 'autopilot'!

Go Log in now... click audio, scroll down, click Business & Marketing Audio # 7 & listen (or download)!
IVDD Progressions (blog)
To the Blog - Spine pic
And the blog this week comes from a brilliant question about exercise progressions for IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) cases.  Absolutely send me your thoughts if you want to add something more to my answer to this question!
And beyond that... I am taking an online course from the "Anatomy Trains" website.  So far it is helping ME and my aches and pains, and tonight I convinced my kids to let me analyze their posture... and they actually tried the exercises I suggested AND asked for clarification and pointers about an hour after we did the assessment and exercise prescription.  Now, they're teenagers, so I don't know if the enthusiasm will last, but I was pleased that they were receptive to it.  I am reading and watching the videos intently to see what I might learn in order to apply to dogs (and then teach to you!)  So... we'll just have to see where that goes!

Okay... that is it for this week.   It's a long juicy e-mail!  (You're welcome, or sorry... whichever applies!)  Have a great week!

Until next time... Cheers!
