FourLeg: What's white & red & itchy all over?

Yowza!  Got myself a good bit of sunshine!
What's white and red and itchy all over?  ME!
I just got back from Hawaii, where my family and I enjoyed a week at a lovely beach house on the eastern shores of Oahu.  We had a lovely time and some much needed rest and family together time (even if the boys did not appreciate when I made them play Yatzee or when we went for a hike in the mud - and two of us fell).  We did get out in the sunshine and on the water to kayak and snorkel  It was rejuvenating… and made my skin 'pink up' a little bit (better than pasty-Canadian-winter-white that I was sporting before this!)   And while away, my hubby and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary.  I certainly couldn't do all of the things I do without his support.  So here's a picture… now you guys actually get to see him too!

What do I have for you this week?

This week, I thought it would be useful to carry on from the Tendinopathy theme and provide information about specific tendons - so this video is about Biceps Tendons, Supraspinatus Tendon - anatomy, literature review, palpation, assessment, and what I'd do to treat…
I shouldn't feel like I have to apologize for giving you a long video again… but I'm sorry, it's a long video - 42 minutes again!  Who knew I was so long winded?  www.FourLeg.com

Blog: Return to Swimming after Biceps Tendonitis
And in keeping with the tendinopathy theme, this week's blog is a question & answer about return to swimming following a biceps tendon lesion.

Book Review 1
So, while in Hawaii, I finished the book by W. Brett Wilson (Redefining Success - Still Making Mistakes) that I talked about last time.  Good book!  His main points (among many) were that he believes that all institutions need to do a better job in teaching three things (no matter what field you go into):  Entrepreneurship, Marketing, & Philanthropy.  I couldn't agree more about the first two things.  And the last item I found really enlightening, as Brett talks about how 1) people need to donate more… what are you going to do with all of your money… you can only acquire so much 'stuff' in a lifetime, and that doesn't really do great things in the world now does it? and 2) people with money can and should look at investing in start up companies that are wanting to do good things in this world… Sure you can make a little 'return on investment'… but you are doing so much more with your money if you are able to help someone else do amazing thing!  Cool concept!  I believe these folks are called 'Angel Investors' and Brett's right, there should be more of them!!

Book Review 2
The second book I read was entitled Whale Done - The Power of Positive Relationships by Ken Blanchard.  Now I have to admit that I like all of the books by Ken Blanchard… they are easy to read and presented in a story telling format.  When you get done reading, you realize that the message was sooooo simple.  It could have been given to you in less than one page, but it is the story that make it memorable and gives you ideas for application.  The premise of this book comes from training Whales.  You can't reprimand a Whale and expect him to work for you!  He's too big for that!  So Whale trainers have to use positive reinforcement for everything they do.  The book then goes on to describe how you (or rather how the character in the story) takes those ideas and applies them to management of a team, as well as family, or any other relationship for that matter.  It's a good read, a fast read, and I think it has a good message.
And that's a wrap!!
Oh, one last thing!
Congratulations to all of the Olympians… we were glued to the TV at my house (when not in Hawaii) watching all of the amazing athletes!  Great sporting camaraderie and pride that each person (athlete or spectator) could feel in their fellow countrymen!  Made me warm and fuzzy all over.  (Hey maybe that's why I'm itchy… and it has nothing to do with the sunburn!)

Thank you everyone for taking the time to be with me each week… even if you don't read it all or watch everything… it is always there for you to come back to later!  Keep being excited with every day and what it might bring to you or what you might be able to bring to it!

Cheers!
