FourLeg: Missing legs & turkey gut!

Published: Mon, 10/13/14

Great weekend!
So this is Thanksgiving weekend up here in Canada, and as I write this, my stomach is entirely distended with an overstuffing of turkey, potatoes, squash, salad, beets, carrots, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie.  Ahhh!  The diet starts again tomorrow!!

Now I must confess that I have been feeling more and more overwhelmed over the past year (or two) with all of the new and expanding roles that I have taken on.  And I was feeling like a bit of a failure for setting myself up for for this exhausting pace I've been leading.  However, I came to realize that this is exactly what life is like for those of us with an aspiration to grow and expand.  We do what we do until we have to make a shuffle / amendment so that we can carry on.  So, I started to brain storm about ways to make my life a little easier or to free up more time to work on big projects.  I am delighted to say that I have taken measures to be at my clinic a little less (no less hours, changing the days & times).  My in-clinic schedule will now be LONG days Tue & Thur, and a 1/2 day Saturday.  This will enable me to have undivided 'focus' time on Mon, Wed, & Fri - allowing me more time to work on FourLeg projects, new courses, and marketing for my clinic.  I'm hopeful it will enhance my sanity.  As well, I've been bringing my camera to work with me to take spur of the moment video.  So far it's working out!!  I've got some great stuff for you already!

And on that note… on with the show!  I've had a number of requests regarding therapy for dogs with amputations… and on a hunch I brought my camera on Friday with a gut feeling that one of my 3-legged maintenance patients would be in.  BINGO!  I was right.  So here is your instalment of amputation learning!

Care & Maintenance of the canine amputee.  I have a couple of these guys that come in for periodic therapy.  Here's one of my patients and some discussion on things to do, things to show the owner, areas to monitor, etc!  I hope you enjoy!

This amputation 'thing' is the theme of the week.  Here is a Q & A about the same subject - care and maintenance of the amputee patient.

"Hi Laurie,

Do you have any info on your site about forelimb amputation dogs? How to support a young one? (large breed). -KM"

Thanks to you!!
Today of all days, I want to say thank you for joining me on this learning journey to improve the health and well being of our most wonderful companions - dogs that is (and the occasional other 4-legged, 3-legged, or 2-legged creature!)

Have a wonderful week my friends!

Until next time… CHEERS!
