Mental happiness...
Cheers to the upcoming year!
So this week, I am starting to feel productive again.  The holidays sap that away from you!!  And I prefer the feeling of productivity, it actually makes me happy!  Now, into my productivity, I've also thrown self-care.  I managed to get to the gym twice, yoga once, and the treadmill at home twice this week.  As well, I've cracked open (okay, logged into) my MindValley account to go through some more personal development lectures.  And here I am on Sunday, feeling not too bad with it all!

Now this week has been very chilly.  Down into the -25C range!  The only good things about these temperatures are 1) you feel justified in having a fire in the fireplace (I love a real wood fireplace), and 2) the landscape is beautiful.  Check out the picture below.  My son went down to the river (land we rent and put cows on) to check on things down there, and snapped the picture below.  Those are deer tracks, and the picture doesn't quite do justice to the loveliness of the white on white colour pallet with snow covering all of the branches etc.  Anyways, I just wanted to share my 'warm and fuzzy' appreciation for the beauty that can be found in cold weather & snow.

Oh, one more thing!  Hubby, youngest son, and I went to The Revenant (with Leonardo DiCaprio) last night. While I appreciated the beautiful scenery, and enjoyed trying to spot what landscape I recognized (much of it was filmed near here), I still don't really know what the point of the movie was.  So, if you are a deep thinker and would like to offer suggestions, I'm all ears!

Anyways, enough of the chit-chat...  On to YOUR learning for this week!

Members Video Training 136: Sensory Integration Background
Sensory integration is the process of taking in, sorting out, and responding to all of the sensory information in the environment.  But what if that system is not functioning properly?  Then that is a sensory processing disorder.  Okay... so that can happen... Now what?  Check this out to learn more!

Hmmm.... What's this? Perhaps I should know about it!

Blog: Question & Answer about ligament healing...
Laurie,
This has been on my mind for a while, and I really want to understand it.
As I understand it, a grade 1 sprain involves minimal disruption of fibers and no disruption to stability. So CAN these fibers "heal"? As in can we make the ligament as strong and robust as it once was? Do new fibers develop? If I have a grade 1 CCL strain, I've seen from your excellent handout that PA glides can "stimulate normal healing alignment". Does this mean the disrupted fibers align themselves as they heal?

and more...

Oooh! I secretly have this question too!

So have a great week everyone!

Until next time... Cheers!

Laurie

Repeat:  One last thing...
And I'm kind of afraid to even mention it...
But the Canine Fitness Centre is now open to Externships / Internships again. We are a good fit for Vets and PTs primarily (just because we don't have any techs on staff at the moment - thus a lot of what we see and do is manual diagnostics and manual therapies).  We really enjoy having in people that have been out practicing for a while.  We find that WE are equally stimulated by this interaction, and depth of discussion and conversation.  We offer a day rate or you can come for a 4 or 5 day stretch. (We can't take on longer internships however.  It tires us out too much... Sorry!)  Contact me for more info.  Laurie@CanineFitness.com

P.S. Helpful Hints for members...
If you are new to FourLeg and happen to be having any issues with watching the videos, you will want to cut and paste the following url into your browser bar:
http://www.fourleg.com
Sometimes after people sign up on the secure page on FourLeg, their computer remembers the secure address for the website (https:), and takes them to the site via that prefix... but the rest of the pages aren't secured, only the sign up page... and if you go to watch the videos on the https:... site, then it won't allow you to watch them. So going to the http:// version will make everything turn out okay!!!

As members, If you are wanting to search a topic... then locate the white search bar in upper right hand side of the screen when you log in & are on the members' side of the site.  This is an easy way to find content in all formats!
