Here's what's happened for me...
1) I've been meaning to pass along the story of my own dog, Syri, who had a vestibular episode 2 weekends ago. She's my overweight (we're trying! She's even on thyroid meds) rescue Borzoi that weighs about 95lbs! Anyways, what I wanted to share was just how unnerving it was as an owner to go through the experience. I know first
hand how it must be for an owner to think "This is it, if we can even get her into the car, we'll likely be taking her in to be put down." Fortunately, I could be rationale about what was going on, and did the vestibular technique (Dix-Hallpike & Eply maneuvers), and rolled her over a few times, and she was standing by morning. But man, was it scary. 100lbs of dizzy does not move well! Anyhow, it made me even more empathetic to what owners go through, and I wanted to
remind you of the resources on FourLeg for this, and to pass along just how important it might be to really emphasize that this problem is most often short term and fixable!!! The owners will be FREAKED OUT! So you need to go overboard to reassure them that it'll be okay!
So, If you follow the links on the Free Stuff page, you can get to the following page, that has, amongst other things, my vestibular technique:
I'm putting it here for all to see and find!
2) I'm getting over some 'dancing injuries' from the previous weekend at the CPA conference. My right shoulder and left hip took the brunt of 'dancing like I was 20 again'. How can you not, when the band does a great ACDC rendition???? I just
don't bounce back like I used to!!
3) My little 'human clinic' that I opened inside of my canine clinic is going well. Just as I suspected, there are plenty of 'broken' dog owners out there who feel comfortable at our facility and want to see a therapist there!
4) The canine clinic is busy! Mostly with 'physio' appointments. We find that
the UWT appointments slow down a bit periodically. And we had a great staff meeting last Wednesday: We invited in a lady doing 'traveling ultrasonography' for musculoskeletal injuries... could be an interesting match-up!
5) I participated in the social media event #GetPT1st. I put together 3 compilation posts and boosted them for greater exposure on Facebook. It was great to see the posts from
other physios and rehab people out there!
6) My business partner and I submitted a paper for publication! I'll keep you posted on the topic and whether it gets accepted or not when I learn more!
7) Stay tuned for next week, when I unveil the compilation document from the survey on 'What to do when things are slow'... There's some great
information coming your way!
8) This week. Check out the forum! Sign up if you've not done so already! And post a question or reply!
Anyways, enough of the chit-chat... On to YOUR learning for this week!
