You are receiving this e-blast because you signed up for these e-blasts on FourLeg.com. If for some reason, this makes you unhappy... then unsubscribe at the bottom. But for everyone else... HEY! Let's get on with the show! I'm in Victoria, BC, Canada!
And I wish I could say that it's lovely and sunny. It's not. It's overcast and drizzling. But I'm learning some cools stuff!
I'm looking forward to sharing some of the information I'm leaning with all of you!
But for now, all I can tell you is my 'take-away's' from a session called 2 minutes 2 slides. It's a fun session where clinicians present information (some clinical tidbit) in 2 minutes and only using 2 slides. We had two of our therapists do animal rehab related talks (strategic infiltration of the physiotherapy establishment). But some of the other talks were good as well, and here's my favourite (non-animal) info:
- Providing Empathy, Hope & Caring results in better outcomes. (It's proven in research. And I think it would hold true for dog owners as well.
- You can write your exercises out. You can sent patients a video link or e-mail them their exercises. But many patients lose the handout, or don't open the e-mail. So, have them video you showing them the
exercises. This results in the BEST success with exercise compliance (and having them do it right!)
- One therapist relayed a patient's comments to her: "Physiotherapists treat the whole body, both mental and physical. The medical profession only treats my disease, but you have done so much more!" (That's how we need to think of what we're doing in animal rehab as well - with both the owner &
dog!!)
- Create a 'Therapeutic Alliance' with the patient. 1) elicit their concerns about the problem, 2) elicit their perspective, 3) show empathy, and 4) after the assessment, involve the patient in setting the goals.
Anyhoo... enough about me, here's your learning for this week!

Member's Four Leg Business & Marketing AUDIO
|
Ooooh! It's been a long time since I've created an audio for you. I love audio's! I listen at the gym, in my car, and while doing housework or making dinner. (GEEK ALERT!)
So today's Business & Marketing Audio is entitled 'Target Market Sequencing to Get More Vet
Referrals.' This was based on my Round Table discussion at the STAAR conference. So here's the info to listen to again (for those in attendance) or to hear for the first time (those who weren't there... but who will likely choose to come next year!) And what about dating? Establishing a veterinary relationship is like dating. You don't ask a 'prospect' to marry you on your first date! So why would you expect the vet to refer to you just because you handed him
or her a brochure????
So MEMBERS, Login, Click Audios, and scroll down to the bottom to find the most recent Business & Marketing Audio!

This week, the blog is a Question & Answer about a case.
"I posted on the forum about a cruciate repair that just won't straighten out for me despite diligent TE and proper restrictions. Hip xrays were good going into the surgery and the repair is stable. I just feel like I am missing something obvious and am looking for advice."
Members can go to the forum to add in your thoughts too!

P.S. Helpful Hints for members... |
If you are new to FourLeg and happen to be having any issues with watching the videos, you will want to cut and paste the following url into your browser bar: http://www.fourleg.com Sometimes after people sign up on the secure page on FourLeg, their computer remembers the secure address for the website (https:), and takes them to the site via that prefix... but the rest of the pages aren't secured, only the sign up page... and if you go to watch the videos on the
https:... site, then it won't allow you to watch them. So going to the http:// version will make everything turn out okay!!!
As members, If you are wanting to search a topic... then locate the white search bar in upper right hand side of
the screen when you log in & are on the members' side of the site. This is an easy way to find content in all formats!
