FourLeg: Is sitting getting a bad rap?

Published: Mon, 12/19/16

You are receiving this e-blast because you signed up for these e-blasts on FourLeg.com.  If for some reason, this makes you unhappy... then unsubscribe at the bottom.  But for everyone else... HEY!  Let's get on with the show!
Only 5 more days until I can throw my diet out the window!
Life updates...
  •  Announcement!  I'lll be off my diet from the 24th to the 26th... so during that time, please refrain from posting pictures of skinny, healthy models or commenting about how fabulous you look and feel in skinny jeans or spandex leotards!  I refuse to feel guilt for those 3 days!
  • We (here in and around Calgary) have been in a deep freeze for over a week.  We were -20 - -30C!!!  But today, the chinook rolled in, and with it we have temperatures just below the freezing mark!  Much more liveable!  The youngest son even went out  to shovel off a dug-out on the ranch to create a skating rink!  (Yes, the son that also does 'tasteful nudes' for his FB profile page... Didn't think I should post it here, but if you want to see my crazy kid (& lots of bare skin in -20), to to my personal Facebook page.  That's all I'm going to say about that!)
  • I cannot believe that Christmas is one week away.  I still have some shopping and baking to do!  Ugh!  But the tree went up yesterday!
That's it as a quick 'life in review'...  looks like I need to get busy!

Now on to YOUR learning for this week!  But first...

BLOG:  Is sitting (or lying) for most of the time really that bad for you??
This week’s blog is inspired by:  http://www.mikereinold.com/sitting-isnt-bad-for-you/
In the Mike Reinold blog, he talks about the bad rap that sitting gets… how prolonged sitting is being blamed for back pain, saggy abdominals, and all physical evils.  The blog goes on to explain that staying still and remaining in any prolonged position is the real evil, and that what we need is 1) movement and 2) reverse posturing.

So, for all of YOU working with animals, you may find that most of the time you are bending forwards with your arms reaching out ahead of you.  For me, I spend so much time on the floor bending forwards.  However, when I go to my yoga class, I’m a superstar when it comes to any kind of forward bends, deep squats, or sitting crossed legged, but I work hard to do anything that requires extending backwards, opening my chest, or pulling my shoulders back and down!

P.S. Helpful Hints for NEW members...
If you are new to FourLeg and happen to be having any issues with watching the videos, you will want to cut and paste the following url into your browser bar:
http://www.fourleg.com
Sometimes after people sign up on the secure page on FourLeg, their computer remembers the secure address for the website (https:), and takes them to the site via that prefix... but the rest of the pages aren't secured, only the sign up page... and if you go to watch the videos on the https:... site, then it won't allow you to watch them. So going to the http:// version will make everything turn out okay!!!

As members, If you are wanting to search a topic... then locate the white search bar in upper right hand side of the screen when you log in & are on the members' side of the site.  This is an easy way to find content in all formats!
