Exercise & the Brain, plus Iliopsoas Ponderings

My week in review:

So, I lost one of my 'Free Stuff / Friends of FourLeg' subscribers this week.  Why? Because she felt I told too many stories about my own life in my e-blasts.  Darghhh!  So what is a person to do?  Am I best to become a robot and keep everything clinical and impersonal?  Should I condense everything into the most basic of communications - here, learn this, done?  Should I not tell you anything about my clinic or my family or myself?

Hmmm?  Hmmm!  Hmmm....

Well, No.  Actually No.  By far, the majority of e-mails and comments I get tell me how much people enjoy hearing about my life and that they feel like they know me personally.  Is that a bad thing?  No!  Actually No! Marketers will tell you that you need to be personal without giving being too personal (I'm still keeping family secrets, I'm not being 'gross', I'm not being overly political, and I'm not giving you a play by play of what I eat every day or how my bowels are functioning!)  In part, I do what I do so that you might emulate it with your correspondence with your clients when you market to them.  Should I NOT be practicing what I preach?  No. Actually No!

So I'm okay with losing one person for that reason, and besides, I think it's interesting to learn about other people's lives and how they fit their profession in, around, and amongst it!  So there!

Anyhoo... enough about me!  Onto you and your learning for this week!

But first, check out my backyard!

Member's FOURLEG NEWS - Jan-Feb 2017 edition
Exercise & the Brain - What's up with dog research?
This newsletter excites me!  It was inspired by a talk I listened to last year at the Canadian Physiotherapy Association's Orthopaedic Division Symposium.

How does exercise help with cognition?  with motor learning?  with memory?
How does exercise help with the brain?  with aging?

Check out the newsletter to learn more and to be inspired or stimulated to query how you might put the information to use in your practice!
(And I'd love to hear your ideas...)

Blog: Iliopsoas strain?  Or is it?
This was my favourite recent question e-mailed to me.  I added to the Forum last week, but I think that it would be 'stimulating' and 'thought provoking' for everyone to read!

So, I hope those of you that are Friends of FourLeg check it out, and those of you Members of FourLeg that aren't yet on the forum check it out as well.

Here's the gist:  If the dog has a painful iliopsoas secondary to favouring a rear leg, is it really a strain?  How would treatment based on knowledge of the pathology and underlying cause of the muscle pain?

And that's a wrap!  So have a great week everyone!

Until next time... Cheers!
