Right into the story... We saw the Sports Medicine Specialist on Friday! So, they too believe him to have an ACL tear and a partial MCL tear. He's now in a brace (limited between 30 - 90 degrees) that he has to wear 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We're waiting for an MRI now!
Good news is that my colleague Sue, has been awesome at helping me to find resources to get him working on Pre-Hab! Too funny, but all too typical... giving the kid a handout on what to do for Pre-operative rehab has made a huge difference. (What does Mom know, right?!?) He's been way more active in his rehab since getting information from the internet! And this coming week, I head to New Jersey for the STAAR Conference.
I hope to see some of you there! |
So, on to you, and YOUR learning for this week!

Blog: Type of Exercise & Recovery Needs
|
A very interesting blog crossed my desk.
Basically, the article discussed how often you should train a muscle group (i.e. the Glutes) in order to grow it as fast as possible! Fun, right? It talked about the concept of muscle SRA. SRA stands for Stimulus, Recovery, and Adaptation. We know that muscle protein synthesis increases during Recovery and Adaptation and can stay elevated for up to 4
days. It is the type of exercise that determines how long the muscle needs to go through the SRA process (and hence when to work out the muscle again.)

P.S. Are you looking to include SHOCKWAVE in your practice?
|
I have just the thing! I highly recommend the unit that I have and use at my clinic. And now, I can bring it to you!
And if you're interested, give me a shout and I'll happily send along all of the details. RADIAL SHOCKWAVE rules! I am loving it as an adjunct to my other therapies, and am seeing amazing results with it when used on osteoarthritis, tendinosis lesions, and lumbosacral disc disease. (There are more things it can treat, but these three things keep it hopping
at my clinic!)
The price is right (in Canadian Dollars), and I can ship anywhere in North America. (For those of you overseas, I can put you in touch with local distributors nearer to you!)
Okay... so check it out if you've ever been interested!

P.S. Helpful Hints for NEW members... |
If you are new to FourLeg and happen to be having any issues with watching the videos, you will want to cut and paste the following url into your browser bar: http://www.fourleg.com Sometimes after people sign up on the secure page on FourLeg, their computer remembers the secure address for the website (https:), and takes them to the site via that prefix... but the rest of the pages aren't secured, only the sign up page... and if you go to watch the videos on
the https:... site, then it won't allow you to watch them. So going to the http:// version will make everything turn out okay!!!
As members, If you are wanting to search a topic... then locate the white search bar in upper right hand side
of the screen when you log in & are on the members' side of the site. This is an easy way to find content in all formats!
And check out www.fourleg.com/Help to address any FAQ regarding website or membership
difficulties.
