FourLeg: What do you do after the Epley?

Published: Mon, 09/04/17

You are receiving this e-blast because you signed up for these e-blasts on FourLeg.com.  If for some reason, this makes you unhappy... then unsubscribe at the bottom.  But for everyone else... HEY!  Let's get on with the show!

We're off and running in September!

And what's going on these days...

Hooray hooray!  The video I intended for two weeks ago is uploaded and ready for you!  Wee!

The pool installation is coming along.

I survived my first week as an empty nester with only one short bout of tears.  (Wait, does that now make me a bad Mom?)

Hubby and I were 'officially' granted travel visas' to go to Brazil in November.  (What a 'rigamarole'!!!)

Plans are also underway for teaching in Italy in December 2018.

Better get on with it, this is a 'juicy e-blast'!!!

Okay, Okay!  Enough about me, let's just get on with your learning this week!

But first, a cartoon!

And here's what the pool is looking like these days!
(This week the decks and stairs are getting painted.  The turbine has been hooked up... it's almost ready for water!)

Members Training Video:  After the Epley...
What do you do next?
Image
Huge 'shout out' and 'thank you' to Shari Sprague of http://www.puprehabfl.com/ for filming all of these great video clips of her dog Abby last year.  Shari's dog Abby had a vestibular episode.  Shari did the Epley Maneuver about 5 times. The videos you see start about a week after the episode and are the rehabilitation / vestibular balance training / eye training that Shari did with Abby afterwards.  AWESOME JOB Shari!!!  I'm so excited for all of you members to see this and be able to go "Beyond the Epley'!!!
Enjoy!

A mini version of after the Epley...

Blog: When things aren't right...
Okay, the picture to the left is obviously a photoshop... but it's an attention grabber!

This blog comes about as a result of an ever-present argument I see brought forth (mostly by vets and technicians) in regards to “PT’s needing to be supervised by a vet, because they might not recognize other issues or comorbidities in their animal patients.”  Now, flat out, I’m going to say that I don’t agree with this statement, especially as someone that has taught vets and techs how to recognize neuromusculoskeletal (NMSK) issues, and how to know when an issue IS NMSK and when it is not.  But, the point of my blog is to discuss with ALL canine rehab practitioners when to know to raise the red flag.  Quite frankly, because it’s all of us that need to know how to identify when something isn’t right!!  And that’s what it boils down to – is this right or not?

In need of your help again...
HELP & SUPPORT
ROUND TWO... the College of Veterinarians of Ontario is moving forwards with the proposed changes to their Vet Act.  For the most part, I support and applaud them on this enormous effort.  However, they have continued to use wording (particularly in the Authorized Activities section) that could hinder or even prevent physiotherapists from practicing animal rehab.  The CVO is again seeking input and has created a survey for people to do just that.

Please have a look at the information I am presenting on the subject (on behalf of the Animal Rehab Division) at: http://www.caninefitness.com/index.php?pid=63 and voice your opinion.  There is a link to the CVO survey and a guideline to help you fill out their survey as well.

Please & Thank you!

And that's a wrap!  Have a great week ahead everyone!

Until next time... Cheers!

Laurie

P.S.  EDUCATION YOU NEED!
BASIC MANUAL THERAPY FOR THE CANINE SPINE
&
ADVANCED MANUAL THERAPY FOR THE CANINE SPINE

If you are serious about doing canine rehab, you NEED these courses!  NEED!  You'll never get a dog 'sound' if the lameness is coming from the first rib or a sacroiliac joint if you don't know to look for the problem or fix it!
And your canine rehab training likely didn't give you sufficient background in manual therapy for the canine spine.  So where can you get educated?

ATLAS REHAB FOR CANINES is bringing me down to GORGEOUS Santa Barbara, California!

Check out:   http://www.atlasrehabforcanines.com/ & click on conference

Note:
  •  If I didn't teach you in your Canine Rehab Certification program, then you'll need the Basic Manual Therapy course to get you started.  Trust me!  And it'll give you tons to work with!

  • If you have taken either my Basic Spine course OR I taught you in your Canine Rehab Certification program (and you're using spinal manual therapy), or are a canine rehab trained PT with a manual therapy background, or a vet with Chiro training you can go to the Advanced Spine Course.

JOIN ME in California for a great educational experience!
