You are receiving this e-blast because you signed up for these e-blasts on FourLeg.com. If for some reason, this makes you unhappy... then unsubscribe at the bottom. But for everyone else... HEY! Let's get on with the show! On Saturday, my clinic celebrated it's 15th Birthday!
We had a small open house, and about 40 or 50 people attended. I gave a short talk on the history of physiotherapy, the history of animal physiotherapy, and the history of the clinic. I was fascinated with just how many people told me how interesting they found the presentation. (I think there's a marketing lesson in that!) My office manager made some amazing cupcakes, and we had some draw prized from
our suppliers and some local businesses. All in all, it was a great afternoon.
Enough about me, let's just get on with your learning this week!

Tarsal Osteoarthritis...
What do we know? What all do we treat?
|
|
I don’t blog much about the tarsus. Maybe it’s time to talk tarsal joints! Why the sudden interest? Well, in going through some journal articles, I found one that was a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis regarding physical impairments in (human) Adults with Ankle Osteoarthritis.
Essentially, of all of the studies they found, only 8 qualified for review, and of those, only 3 could be used for a meta-analysis. Despite this, they found that there were large impairments of ankle ROM and strength in the sagittal plane. Some single studies described impairments in the frontal plane of motion and
strength, as well as deficits in talar translation and rotation, balance, and electromyography of ankle joint muscles. Additionally, there were reports of abnormal bony alignments and greater fatty infiltrate in all calf muscle compartments. (Al-Mahrouqi et al 2018)
But what is out there in the canine literature?
k below to get reading now!!!

I've put all of my exercises (and some of yours) onto a handy platform - Physiotec! It's a wonderful online resource for delivering home exercise / advice programs.
There are HUNDREDS of exercises FOURLEGEXERCISE.COM already! You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the
exercises. There's so much! Massage, Owner-friendly joint therapies, Exercises, Advisement, etc, etc.
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by / billed for separately, by... Physiotec... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that your question pertains
to FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
