Learn how to prescribe exercise to treat pain!!
Ooh boy! Some good content in this week's educational training!
On the home front, the bulls are out with the cows now and hubby is trying out strip grazing. (Not that he's in his underwear in the field with cows eating around him... but rather we use electric fence to separate a piece of land and make the cows eat in one area, then move them to a different area in about 2 weeks so that the grass gets a chance to rest and recover.)
We managed to get to the cottage twice last weekend, which was fabulous! We didn't go this past weekend because Sunday morning was the annual community Stampede Breakfast - Pancakes & Visiting. Which also means that the Calgary Stampede is on! We don't go down to the Stampede grounds... it's full on chaos. I'd rather be at home without running into people!
And I know I said it last week too... but Holy Rain Batman! The Lawnmower is out again today while the sun is shining and before this evening's downpour!
Okay, enough about all of that, let's get on with your learning...

This started as a tribute to my favourite researcher, Ronaldo da Costa. It also turned out to be a great way for me to get caught up on all of the new WOBBLER'S RESEARCH as well. This one contains a bit of Background, Etiology & Pathology, New Places to look for a problem, and Gait Analysis
of affected dogs. Enjoy the read!

Blog:
Exercise for Pain... but How?
|
|
You’ve likely heard that exercise can be a form of pain management. (If you’ve not, then you really need to read more!) But if you (or in our case, your furry patient) is in pain, then how much exercise should you prescribe?
Essentially, you can’t use the same parameters as you would for exercise prescription for fitness. Nor can you use the same prescription methods as you would for rehab and reconditioning. The goal of gaining fitness or returning to a previous level of fitness after an injury is not the same as exercising a patient that has chronic pain.
Here we need to change our goals and exercise targets.

I've put all of my exercises (and some of yours) onto a handy platform - Physiotec! It's a wonderful online resource for delivering home exercise / advice programs.
There are HUNDREDS of exercises FOURLEGEXERCISE.COM already! You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the
exercises. There's so much! Massage, Owner-friendly joint therapies, Exercises, Advisement, etc, etc.
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by / billed for separately, by... Physiotec... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that your question pertains
to FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
