Here we are, fully engaged in 2020. In my part of the world, it's crazy cold!! -18C (-1F) today, but by mid week we'll be -26C (-14F). It's a mind-set thing... but I've not done a good job of embracing it!
Thank you to everyone that has sent their kind words of encouragement in regards to my decision to cancel my overseas teaching for 2020 because of my husband's health and issues with my oldest son... and really, how it's been messing with my mental and physical health. I appreciate the support.
And speaking of teaching, I am teaching here in Calgary at my clinic for The Animal Rehab Division this upcoming weekend. It's my Advanced Manual Therapy for the Canine Spine course. Honestly, it's one of my favourites to teach. So I'm telling myself that it will be fun! After that, I have no speaking commitment until May (our Canadian Physiotherapy Association Congress), and I'm looking forward to the no-commitment part as
well! We'll see how it all goes!

OKAY, so let's get onto your learning for the week...
BLOG:
How wide is your pulse? E-stim Settings…
|
|
So, while looking up a wee factoid (milliseconds versus microseconds) in regards to pulse duration on an e-stim, I came across an interesting paper.
Gorgey AS & Dudley GA. The role of pulse duration and stimulation duration in maximizing the normalized torque during neuromuscular electrical stimulation. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2008, 38(8): 508-516.
So, the premise of the study was to see whether a protocol of longer NMES duration was better than a protocol of short duration, but longer pulse duration. They measured torque as well as MRI evaluations of cross sectional area of each of the stimulated muscles (before and immediately after each protocol.)

In this NEWish section, I want to inspire you to GO BACK THROUGH some of the OLD Four Leg Education Modules!
LASER...
Okay, when I hear that vet clinics with no rehab training are purchasing a laser, I say, "It's not a magic wand!" (Because they don't have the same background at knowing where, when, how to use it and/or if they even have the correct diagnosis. However, I'll admit that it is hands down my favourite rehab tool. Okay, I take that back, my brain and my hands are, but after that, it's my laser! Are YOU looking for more laser education? Well, look no further!

For over a year, I worked with Physiotec (an online exercise platform) to create a exercise prescription platform for canine rehab practitioners. And this is it!
I've put hundreds of exercises together onto this handy platform. You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's so much: Massage, owner-friendly joint therapies, exercises, advisement, etc,
etc!
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by Physiotec (and they charge separately for it's use)... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that your question pertains to FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the
Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
Go there... Check it out!!!

Have a great week everyone!
Until next time... Cheers!
