Scrap That! The Forum is being Fixed right now!
So... you get bonus content this week. When I went to answer questions in the Forum last weekend, I was unable to respond to anybody. My Web-Guy is working on it. But what the means for you is that I busted my butt to get you something ELSE as your learning content for this week. So, this week, you get a helpful cheat sheet of Common Vet & PT Acronyms to help us all understand each other's chart
notes (and/or use the same acronyms).
Other than that, I have been very busy with what I'll call 'Political stuff' in the province of Ontario, here in Canada. The regulatory body for the vets in Ontario has passed a position statement saying that only a vet can do laser therapy (Class 3a or 4) or must directly supervise it's use in clinic. They are saying it's a safety issues. I think this is crazy, as do many of your engaged in the field of canine rehab!
So, I'm asking for a bit of help in this department.
PLEASE, would any veterinarian that I have ever taught on the subject of canine rehab (assessment, treatment, exercise prescription, modalities, etc., etc.) - Live, or even if within FourLeg, please write me a letter of recommendation. It would need to say something to the effect that I taught you how to safely use modalities including laser (or shockwave),
etc., that I taught you rehabilitation assessment skills and better 'physical diagnostic skills', and/or that I taught you treatment planning skills. Basically all things or anything. The intention is to prove ME as a credible source on these topics. Crazy... but it's where we're at! PLEASE and THANK YOU!
(You can e-mail them to me at Laurie@FourLeg.com)
Okay! Enough about me... and besides, I gotta get back to work!

Let's get onto your learning for the week...
BLOG:
Testing for Return to Sport
|
|
Today I came across a blog that talked about Return to Sport Testing (RST). The author(s) had done their own review of a review study to re-evaluate the claims made about RST.
Here’s the link to the original, but it doesn’t do us much good in canine rehab, other than to ponder the question. Never the less, folks as nerdy as me might want to take a look at it! https://blogs.bmj.com/bjsm/2019/05/09/keep-calm-and-carry-on-return-to-sport-testing-after-an-acl-injury-clinician-scientists-weigh-in-on-knee-injury-risk/
Okay, so this got me thinking about those post-op ACL dogs (TPLO, TTA, Extracap, Wedge Osteotomy, etc, etc.) that their owners want to get back into competition again. I’ve rehabbed a fair number over the last few decades. I look at each one differently and I have some favourite ‘end-stage exercises’ that I test in clinic and then prescribe.
However, Return to Sport Testing, I’ve not looked at (or contemplated to be honest)!!
What sort of tests do we look at in humans for Return to Sport after ACL surgery?

Doesn't it sometimes seem like we've had to learn a new language in order to engage in the field of Canine Rehab? It doesn't matter which side of it you are coming from, there are new terms and with those new terms come new acronyms!
Here's a wee cheat sheet that was created after the Survey I conducted a few weeks back on this topic, as well as some additional research I put into it.
It's not complete - so please e-mail me with more of your ideas and I'll happily update it!

For over a year, I worked with Physiotec (an online exercise platform) to create a exercise prescription platform for canine rehab practitioners. And this is it!
I've put hundreds of exercises together onto this handy platform. You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's so much: Massage, owner-friendly joint therapies, exercises, advisement, etc,
etc!
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by Physiotec (and they charge separately for it's use)... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that your question pertains to FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the
Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
Go there... Check it out!!!
