Blog - Calcinosis Cutis & LASER!
And Four Leg content regarding TAILS!!
The life updates:
The new dogs are working out AWESOME! They are such loves and just fit perfectly into the household! I'm so happy that we took them in, as is my husband, the son in the basement, and the other son up the road too! So, that has been GREAT!
Otherwise, up here, it's starting to feel like fall! Eek! However, that means that many of the annoying bugs are gone. That's a win!
Canadian kids go back to school (for the most part) after the September long weekend (so in about a week). I'm pretty sure we'll see a spike in our Covid numbers (- because children are gross. I can say that because I had 2! Ha ha!). Not sure what is happening in other countries around the world (regarding school), but stay safe everyone and be kind!
In keeping with the situation in Ontario up here (and non-vets being allowed to practice animal rehab)... I'm going to keep asking for letters of support. (As this has been suggested to me.) I thank you in advance for your consideration!
Still asking for support!

I NEED LETTERS OF SUPPORT (mainly from Veterinarians)!
To be considered a subject matter expert, I am looking for letters that cover topics such as:
- Laurie Edge-Hughes taught me safe & effective use of modalities (such as laser, shockwave, etc.)
- Laurie taught me effective physical assessment skills and how to use clinical reasoning to make a PHYSICAL / Pathofunctional / FUNCTIONAL diagnosis
- Laurie taught me how to plan treatments for rehab cases
- Laurie taught me manual therapy skills
You get the gist.
I am looking for DOZENS of letters. Please! Please! Thank you to those that already sent one. I appreciate it so very much. (Send to Laurie@FourLeg.com)
Thank you in advance for considering my request!

Alrighty... enough about me. On with your learning!

Outcome Measures - Pressure Algometry

|
Objective Outcome Measures continued! This time we look at pressure algometry. Also known as mechanical threshold testing (MTT) and mechanical nociceptive testing (MNT), this is a quantifiable objective measurement of mechanical pressure to evoke a response. Learn more and see if this tool is one you'd like to use clinically!

Calcinosis Cutis (n=2) & the Wonders of Photobiomodulation Therapy!
|
|
I’ve had a couple of ‘let’s-try-it-and-it-worked’ cases lately. I wanted to share the stories here, so that others might also benefit from what I learned.
Two recent patients of mine presented with the diagnosis of Calcinosis Cutis. “What’s that”, you ask?
The description is as follows: Calcinosis cutis is the deposition of calcium in the dermis, resulting from dystrophic or metastatic calcification. It is most commonly seen as a result of dystrophic calcification, which usually occurs more often in dogs than cats. Widespread calcinosis cutis is referred to as calcinosis universalis, whereas more localized disease is called calcinosis circumscripta.

I've put all of my exercises (and some of yours) onto a handy platform - Physiotec! It's a wonderful online resource for delivering home exercise / advice programs.
There are HUNDREDS of exercises FOURLEGEXERCISE.COM already! You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's
so much! Massage, Owner-friendly joint therapies, Exercises, Advisement, etc, etc.
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by / billed for separately, by... Physiotec... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that your question pertains to
FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
GO THERE... CHECK IT OUT!
