Blog -Two for the Price of One – Aging, Weakness, and Patellar Luxation!
And Four Leg content regarding Acupuncture!!
The life updates:
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!!! We made the pumpkin pies. (Okay 'we' is generous. My husband made them. He likes making pumpkin pies.) These ones are low carb made with an almond flour crust, Swerve sweetener, and coconut milk in the pie filling - to accommodate our 'Anti-Cancer' diet restrictions. But, I'm sure they'll be delicious!
The Fall weather in my part of the world has been lovely. However, snow is in the forecast for the upcoming week. The one thing about this time of year (change from fall to 'pre-winter') is the wind. I don't know what it says about me, but I do not do well with wind. I want to curl up and hide. In fact, on Saturday night, I slept for 13 hours! (Okay... it could be stress related as well... but I think it's the wind that
pushed me over the edge!)
Hey, you TCM / Acupuncture types, what does this mean???
Oooh! And THANK YOU to those that nominated me for the inaugural Veterinary Rehabilitation Therapist of the Year Award. I am honoured and humbled. Congratulations to all of the other nominees as well!
I guess, we all get interviewed. Those interviews go up on the IAVRPT Facebook Page, and then folks can vote!
Here's their FB page if you want to keep track:

I NEED LETTERS OF SUPPORT (mainly from Veterinarians, but I'll take any and all of them)!
To be considered a subject matter expert, I am looking for letters that cover topics such as:
- Laurie Edge-Hughes taught me safe & effective use of modalities (such as laser, shockwave, etc.)
- Laurie taught me effective physical assessment skills and how to use clinical reasoning to make a PHYSICAL / Pathofunctional / FUNCTIONAL diagnosis
- Laurie taught me how to plan treatments for rehab cases
- Laurie taught me manual therapy skills
You get the gist.
I am looking for DOZENS of letters. Please! Please! Thank you to those that already sent one. I appreciate it so very much. (Send to Laurie@FourLeg.com)
Thank you in advance for considering my request!

Four Leg AUDIO - Business & Marketing #25:
Staying Small!
|
|
This audio was inspired by a book that was given to me entitled ReWork. A nice easy to read book that challenges your thinking when it comes to your business. Should growth always be your goal? Are you better off as a small business? Is it actually advantageous to stay small? Are there things that you are doing that are 'big business' in mentality, but
useless as a smaller business? Have a listen (and send me your feedback!)

Two for the Price of One – Aging, Weakness, and Patellar Luxation!
|
|
In this week’s blog, I want to talk about ‘late onset patellar luxation’. Now, I bet some of you are thinking, ‘late onset, what the heck is that?’ Well, have you have seen a dog that is aging or who has suffered some rear end or rear limb weakness, who has a concomitant patellar luxation? I’m betting you have! Is the patellar luxation a primary problem? A secondary problem? Was it there all
along? Let’s discuss!
My first epiphany into this concept is a retired agility patient of mine. This little dog has been coming to the clinic since she was a pup. She conditioned on the underwater treadmill. She had regular physio check-ups and tune-ups. She was a solid little rock star.
Then she had puppies. Then she got soft. Then new dogs came into the picture. Then she was retired from sport.

I've put all of my exercises (and some of yours) onto a handy platform - Physiotec! It's a wonderful online resource for delivering home exercise / advice programs.
There are HUNDREDS of exercises FOURLEGEXERCISE.COM already! You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's
so much! Massage, Owner-friendly joint therapies, Exercises, Advisement, etc, etc.
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by / billed for separately, by... Physiotec... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that your question pertains to
FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
GO THERE... CHECK IT OUT!
