Outcome Measures - Neuro Function Scales
Blog - Osteoarthritis and Exercise
And Four Leg content on Outcome Measures
The life updates:
So, this eblast heralds the final segment of the Outcome Measures Newsletters of 2020.
I'm fairly proud of these newsletters - reviewing the literature and presenting them so that you can decide how to be objective in your rehab and deciding what you will choose or not choose in regards to outcomes!
It went from lovely weather to nasty stormy winter weather over Saturday night. I think we're now in for the cold from here on in!
Last week's blog seemed to resonate with a few of you! (Thank you for the responses.)
I actually spent more time thinking and pondering what I'm wanting to do next and how I'd like to revamp my life based on the Gary Zukav book and the new one I'm listening to now, Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty. So I'm planning on changing FourLeg. It'll be a win win for all of us. I have to do some planning and formulating, but I'll let you know more as I start to cement my ideas! Stay tuned.
Okay, so on with the show!
Still asking for support!

I NEED LETTERS OF SUPPORT (mainly from Veterinarians, but I'll take any and all of them)!
To be considered a subject matter expert, I am looking for letters that cover topics such as:
- Laurie Edge-Hughes taught me safe & effective use of modalities (such as laser, shockwave, etc.)
- Laurie taught me effective physical assessment skills and how to use clinical reasoning to make a PHYSICAL / Pathofunctional / FUNCTIONAL diagnosis
- Laurie taught me how to plan treatments for rehab cases
- Laurie taught me manual therapy skills
You get the gist.
I am looking for DOZENS of letters. Please! Please! Thank you to those that already sent one. I appreciate it so very much. (Send to Laurie@FourLeg.com)
Thank you in advance for considering my request!

Osteoarthritis and Exercise
|
|
High quality evidence exists to support exercise as a treatment for osteoarthritis. This has been show via research on humans for years now. We don’t have this sort of research on the veterinary side of the equation… so why not look at the human research as the best AVAILABLE research to make treatment plans?
This blog is inspired by:
Davis AM, Davis KD, Skou ST et al. Why is exercise effective in reducing pain in people with osteoarthritis?. Curr Treat Options in Rheum (2020).
I’ll get right to the punch… because as health care professionals, we all understand the mechanisms of OA, the implications of OA, and how exercise can benefit OA. (Or at least we should!) So, the parts I wanted to share from this paper are as follows:
• 12 supervised exercise sessions have consistently shown the greatest benefit towards management of symptomatic OA.
• Education and evidence-based exercise programs are cost-effective and have been implemented successfully in a number of countries.
Twelve, eh? I think that’s interesting...

In this NEW section, I want to inspire you to GO BACK THROUGH some of the OLD Four Leg Education Modules!
The whole reason for creating an outcome measures theme for the 2020 newsletters was because I didn't have very much on Four Leg on that topic at the beginning of the year. Well, now with the newsletter and some additional content, FourLeg is a great place to update your learning on outcome measures!

I've put all of my exercises (and some of yours) onto a handy platform - Physiotec! It's a wonderful online resource for delivering home exercise / advice programs.
There are HUNDREDS of exercises FOURLEGEXERCISE.COM already! You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's
so much! Massage, Owner-friendly joint therapies, Exercises, Advisement, etc, etc.
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by / billed for separately, by... Physiotec... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that your question pertains to
FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
GO THERE... CHECK IT OUT!
