What's new?
Well, as I type this I am plunked down on the couch watching a Hallmark Christmas show. They are all so cheesy and predictable, but good as a background distraction for a Sunday of computer work!
On the home front, we lost 4 chickens this week. A lovely HUGE great horned owl killed them! We found him on top of one of the carcasses, eating choice bits! If I didn't love owls so much, I'd be furious! In all of the decades that we've had chickens, we've never had any killed by owls. So, I'm down to 2 chickens! I'll have to get a couple more in the spring. In the mean time, we are guarding our remaining girls!
On the Covid front, we are hanging in there. Business is good. My province has put new restrictions in place... which don't really affect my life much (outside of work, conferences, or teaching, I'm actually an introvert). Hopefully it will allow for a small get-together at Christmas... because right now, we're technically only allowed to get together with family members that live in our own house. Christmas at my in-laws has been
cancelled - most of us are not in their 'social bubble'. So we'll be mailing butter tarts!
Okay! Enough about me!

NEWS ABOUT UPCOMING FOUR LEG CHANGES
|
|
STARTING DECEMBER 15TH, PRICES ARE REDUCING TO ABOUT HALF OF WHAT THEY ARE NOW...
The Monthly Membership will be $20, The Quarterly Membership will be $55, The Yearly Membership will be $220.
WHY?
- I need to get off the weekly content creation treadmill. So I'll be delivering NEW content a bit slower (once every 4 - 6 weeks)
- The FourLeg LIBRARY of existing content is huge! I want all practitioners to be able to affordably access it and use the resources in their practices!
- I'd like to look into being able to give CE credits for Four Leg education.
- I want to create new courses. I want to take courses and have the time to read books (textbooks... I'm that kind of nerdy)! And, I am getting so busy with animal physio Advocacy work up here in Canada, so I need time to do that.
- My clinic is busy and I'm going to have to cover a 4-month(ish) Maternity leave starting in January, so I'm running out of time.
- I'd like to be less busy so that I can do occasional fun things with my family.
So, it's YOU that benefits!
And it will all tie in with a new look and a more searchable website! Win Win!

By the way, I'm still asking for testimonials.
PLEASE, would any veterinarian that I have ever taught on the subject of canine rehab (assessment, making a 'rehab diagnosis', treatment, exercise prescription, modalities, etc., etc.) - Live, or even if within FourLeg, please write me a letter of recommendation. The intention is to prove ME as a credible source on these
topics. Crazy... but this has been suggested to me as a way to help prove myself as a content expert when in discussions with the Vet Colleges (Vet Boards) up here! And, it doesn't matter where in the world you are from. PLEASE and THANK YOU!
(You can e-mail them to me at Laurie@FourLeg.com. I am so incredibly grateful to those of you that have helped me out with this already.)
Let's get onto your learning for the week...

Tendinopathy – how to address and more
|
|
I found a great podcast on this topic.
It was a discussion / interview with Dr. Ebonie Rio, a researcher at La Trobe University in Australia. It fits is very nicely with a couple of questions I’ve received recently about tendon management. So, I’ll just summarize the interview. P.S. This Podcast is awesome. Look for Physio Explained by Physio Network to hear more great podcasts like this one.
So, Dr. Rio starts out with defining Tendinopathy lesions. They are those that demonstrate pain with high tendon load (i.e. a fast spring type load)… which for the Achilles would be any sort of load based on the biomechanics of how that tendons functions. However, for the patellar tendon would include more of a burst type activity.

For over a year, I worked with Physiotec (an online exercise platform) to create a exercise prescription platform for canine rehab practitioners. And this is it!
I've put hundreds of exercises together onto this handy platform. You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's so much: Massage, owner-friendly joint therapies, exercises, advisement, etc,
etc!
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by Physiotec (and they charge separately for it's use)... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that your question pertains to FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the
Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
Go there... Check it out!!!

Have a great week everyone!
Until next time... Cheers!
