And A Four Leg Rehab Minute on Nerve Sheath Tumours
The life updates:
2021... here we go! I sort of want to be excited and hopeful for a new year, but realistically, why would it be any different? That being said, the new Four Leg framework of content delivery will be underway. I'll deliver something new every month (maybe more if I am inspired to do a short piece now and again.) My web guy has some finishing touches to put onto the new 'look', and then we can go live with that! Yay!
Otherwise, on the home front we are still dealing with my husband's unique cancer (which, I suppose is great that we are still dealing with it), our oldest son's mental health issues, an aging mother to keep track of, 450 head of cattle, a busy canine rehab clinic, a small human physio clinic, increased work hours, over a dozen employees, 4 tenants, lots of paperwork, 2 surviving chickens (an owl got 4 of them), 3 aging dogs and a puppy.
So, maybe I am a little late to the party, but my goal for 2021 is sustainability and simplicity. So, I changed FourLeg.com as step one. I'm slowly trying to simplify in other ways as well now that Christmas is over. For example I cleaned out my underwear drawer! I thew out 53 pairs of underwear. Some dated back to the early 90s! I had bought them from the Victoria's Secret catalogue (which came in the mail... because there
was no internet). Now, when I reach for a pair of underwear I don't have to worry that it might be a pair that I wouldn't want medical professionals seeing in the case I were to be hit by a bus!!! Then I did my exercise attire drawer. Easy... with most items going to the second hand store. I know I will need to do my sock drawer, but that will be the hardest! I love socks! I actually have 3 sock drawers - my main sock drawer; my Christmas sock drawer; and
my fuzzy winter socks drawer. I don't know where to start!
Alrighty, so watch for messages of simplifying and sustainability!
In the mean time, I would really appreciate people letting their friends and colleagues know about FourLeg and how affordable it has now become. There literally has never been a better time to join! Only $20 / month! How can you go wrong!?!
All in all, I have so much love and gratitude for all fo you! Thank you for being on this journey with me!
Okay, so on with the show!

Canine Agility Research Update
|
|
The last time I reviewed canine sporting articles was 2014 (Sept-Oct, Vol 3: Issue5). There wasn’t much in the literature back then. It’s wonderful that there are now people actually researching specific aspects of canine agility. As any good sports physiotherapist will tell you, you need to learn the sport, watch the sport, understand the sport in order to do the best job possible for your patient. Treating the canine athlete is not any different.
So, in this issue, you’ll learn about kinematics of jumping and a wee bit about muscle activation in the canine forelimb. I hope you enjoy the read!

Palliative Care Physiotherapy

I’ve been messaging back and forth with a fellow animal physio about a case that turned out to be a nerve sheath tumour. The most recent round of discussion has been about treatment now that the diagnosis has been established. The diagnosing veterinarian told the owner to stop physiotherapy as it wouldn’t be of any benefit. Shame! My suggestion is palliative care if the owners are interested and willing in nurturing quality of life until
a time when euthanasia becomes the next humane treatment option.

I've put all of my exercises (and some of yours) onto a handy platform - Physiotec! It's a wonderful online resource for delivering home exercise / advice programs.
There are HUNDREDS of exercises FOURLEGEXERCISE.COM already! You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's
so much! Massage, Owner-friendly joint therapies, Exercises, Advisement, etc, etc.
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by / billed for separately, by... Physiotec... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that your question pertains to
FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
GO THERE... CHECK IT OUT!

Still asking for support!

I need LETTERS OF SUPPORT (mainly from Veterinarians, but I'll take ANY and all of them)!
To be considered a subject matter expert, I am looking for letters that cover topics such as:
- Laurie Edge-Hughes taught me safe & effective use of modalities (such as laser, shockwave, etc.)
- Laurie taught me effective physical assessment skills and how to use clinical reasoning to make a PHYSICAL / Pathofunctional / FUNCTIONAL diagnosis
- Laurie taught me how to plan treatments for rehab cases
- Laurie taught me manual therapy skills
You get the gist.
I am looking for DOZENS of letters. Please! Please! Thank you to those that already sent one. I appreciate it so very much. (Send to Laurie@FourLeg.com)
Thank you in advance for considering my request AND THANK YOU TO THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE ALREADY WRITTEN LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION FOR ME!
|
And that's a wrap! Have a great week ahead everyone!
Until next time... Cheers!
Laurie
