What's new?
1. The clinic is busy and we are doing some hiring!
2. This week's blog AND the Four Leg Rehab Minute both connect on the theme of making clinical correlations. Have a read. Have a watch. And then think about whether YOU have made any clinical correlations worth sharing! I've set up a Survey to capture your thoughts and findings.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/C766PXR
3. The last Survey garnered 2 responses. Not a huge response rate, but that's okay... it was a concept piece that I didn't figure many folks had given much thought to it. It was about the concept of Playing versus Winning/Losing in business and related to the blog on that subject from a couple weeks back. Here's the blog: https://www.fourleg.com/Blog?b=497
And here are the two responses:
"Yes, massively agree. Life is NOT a zero sum game and there are more than enough dogs to go around. The main thing which causes me to have a sense of humour failure in this industry is when I see unqualified people working outside of scope of practice"
"Winning for me is all about making the patient better....which I guess is playing from another angle."
4. Little known fact, I accidentally ended up becoming the Admin for an animal rehab/physio/etc. Facebook group. It was a page I was on, and I had tried to add a friend to it. From there I went on to look and see who the admin person was. Nobody. FB asked me if I wanted to admin this group. I clicked 'yes'... and low and behold, I became the Admin. So, I figured that I should take the role seriously and get people on the page
and engaging there! So, I will encourage you to go to and ask to join the Animal/Veterinary Physiotherapists & Other Professions group - and I'll see ya there as well!
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1770019073222615
5. It's -25C here today (as the daytime high)... and I am NOT going outside!
6. I get a hair cut next Friday! It's my first haircut since June!
So, that's it for the updates... On with the show!!

By the way, I'm still asking for testimonials.
PLEASE, would any veterinarian that I have ever taught on the subject of canine rehab (assessment, making a 'rehab diagnosis', treatment, exercise prescription, modalities, etc., etc.) - Live, or even if within FourLeg, please write me a letter of recommendation. The intention is to prove ME as a credible source on these topics. Crazy...
but this has been suggested to me as a way to help prove myself as a content expert when in discussions with the Vet Colleges (Vet Boards) up here! And, it doesn't matter where in the world you are from. PLEASE and THANK YOU!
(You can e-mail them to me at Laurie@FourLeg.com. I am so incredibly grateful to those of you that have helped me out with this already.)
Let's get onto your learning for the week...
BLOG:
Tendinopathy and Hyperalgesia
Snippet of Wisdom and Critical Evaluation of Research
|
|
You know when you read research articles and you start by reading the title, then the objective, then the conclusion, and THEN the body of the abstract. That’s how I read abstracts. It’s a streamlining process to get to the point of deciding whether a journal article is actually worth reading in its entirety. If all of those things are intriguing enough, then you get into the meat of the article to decide if
the conclusion makes sense and how much more you can learn from the rest of the article.
So, I came across this article:
Rio E, Sandler J, Cheng K, Moseley GL, Cook J, Girdwood M. Sensory Processing in People With and Without Tendinopathy: A Systematic Review With Meta-analysis of Local, Regional, and Remote Sites in Upper- and Lower-Limb Conditions. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2021 Jan;51(1):12-26.
I was fascinated by the conclusion.
Sensory processing was different between upper-limb tendinopathy and lower-limb tendinopathy. Upper-limb tendinopathies showed signs consistent with primary and secondary hyperalgesia, but lower-limb tendinopathies did not. There was mixed evidence for primary hyperalgesia and limited evidence against secondary hyperalgesia.

SELF NECK TRACTION
|
|
Turns out whenever I sit down to think of a Two Hands Physio blog... my neck must hurt! Because here we have another home health tip on how to do neck traction.
One thing I am missing with this pandemic is my yoga. Sure, I could do it by myself... but I get bored without a class to try to keep up with. I could do it online... but I have country internet, and it’s not always as speedy as it could be. So I just walk instead. What I am noticing is that my neck hurts without the yoga - I think it’s all the head down postures where your neck gets tractioned!
So I created this little video to help myself and help others that might be looking for less pinching in their neck!

For over a year, I worked with Physiotec (an online exercise platform) to create a exercise prescription platform for canine rehab practitioners. And this is it!
I've put hundreds of exercises together onto this handy platform. You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's so much: Massage, owner-friendly joint therapies, exercises, advisement, etc,
etc!
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by Physiotec (and they charge separately for it's use)... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that your question pertains to FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the
Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
Go there... Check it out!!!

Have a great week everyone!
Until next time... Cheers!
